Dino-rina - Meshmixer

This week's assignment was to refine one of our remix objects from the previous blog post in Meshmixer. After carefully considering all the suggestions and feedback given to me by my peers, the clear winner was the T-Rex and Ballerina mash-up. The suggestions were to keep to the KISS principle and "keep it simple stupid", the objects make a strong pair so adding anything to them would be too much, However, adding a second object to encourage the concept seemed to be the running consense.

Dino-rina was chosen to be refined into the most mysterious ballerina jewellery box. This concept stemmed from my idea to mash-up toys from the '80s that I remember playing with. Taking this into consideration, my approach to remix culture was to give a new meaning to the fierce, scary, monstrous T-Rex. And what toy can be so gentle and docile that it can juxtapose this predator? The ballerina!

The challenge from the begining was the learning curve with Meshmixer. I knew the hardest part to improve was going to be his thighs. The T-Rex in Tinkercad was low quality, so I ended up making some thighs for him, but when imported into Meshmixer with the high-quality T-Rex, the Tinkercad thighs were entirely out to alignment. It turned out that I could not use any of the Tinkercad parts and had to import all the stl. Files in Meshmixer.

The next item to refine was the underwear and butt, I thought it added a certain "je ne sais quoi" to the object and really wanted it to stand out as much as possible.

Finally, the Tutu, I had to ensure that the object wasn't distorted; to do so, I duplicate it and enlarge it to the exact proportions.

The thighs that I imported into Meshmixing were a great base to work with, It took some sculpting to match with the ballerina's legs, but it turned out great.

The underwear and ass were the most significant pain in the ass, "no pun intended." Sculpting the underwear to fit the legs, butt, and the tail at just the right angle took many a CTL+ Z. This is the only part of the object you can actually see the mesh, so I wanted it to look seamless.

Finally, the jewellery box! It was the easiest part, as the pieces were already together. I just had to rearrange them, open the lid add the base and the accents and voila!
