Papercraft- Quetzal

This bird proposed so many challenges, although there were only three main body parts to focus on to ensure the construction body, wings, head. Each involved delicate and intricately construction to ensure that they fit together in the end and result in an organic shape. The hardest part was curving each piece to ensure it didn't look too geometric.

A lot of attention went into the body and the wings since they attached at the neck I had to make sure they attached seamlessly where I would install the individual set of feathers.

With all these variations, I was left with this final design.

The structural test came to be difficult since I didn't account for adding additional feathers to the base that I added after laser cutting, they put unnecessary strain on the base of the wings that I made to hold the initial two sets of feathers. However, these added feathers definitely gave some excellent colour contrast.

Finally, the structural test was completed with many layers of glue, If I were to recut the laser wings, I find the application could be cleaner, and I would eliminate at least one layer of feathers.

I call him Kenvin the Quetzal, he enjoys worms and avocado's and soaring through the sky.
