Patterns Galore
This project emphasizes patterns and our first objective was to keep our eyes peeled for patterns that surround us to translate into our surface design project. I am lucky enough to work at a bridal store where I see patterns everywhere I turn. Fabric always had a knack to express pattern in new inventive ways which forced me to look at my own wardrobe and see how experimental I am with my patterns in personal style
Ok, so the fabric has a pattern its a given, stylist use shape and pattern to create interesting texture and visuals. I then hit the streets and tried to find the most expressive shapes compounded around us and boy did I hit the jackpot!
It began with a little decoration here and there...
Some beautiful sunburst rays on metal grates.
Natural patterning the bark of a tree.
Architectural structures that create a variety of patterns from every angle.
And finally, the cascading, overlapping and jutting structures that are our Calgary skyline. The more the sunset hit various parts of the buildings I could see different shapes being revealed.
After sketching out some ideas I am still having a hard time deciding between organic or cubic patterns.
