OBJECTIFIED 3D DESIGN - The Organic Chair

Watching Gary Hustwit's 'Objectified' really made me think of the incredible amount of thought and detail that goes into everyday objects.  Marc Newson, a Designer, from Paris interested me in talking about material and how they can feel like "living materials." I immediately thought of designing a chair that felt like it was alive.

I used organic shapes; the hope was to mimic the human form and create a chair that had a flow and a movement to it.

As Marc Newson mentioned, when a design is made right, it is something you would want to keep. My goal was to make a modern and minimalistic chair that would be something you would cherish and keep.

Karim Rashid, a designer from New York, mentioned a stereo that he cherished as a child. This stereo had human-like qualities he said it felt like" an extension of us, soft and engaging" Keeping this in mind, I tried to create curvilinear shapes that hug and wrap you and give you a sense of engagement.

This project helped me explore my style and skills. The shapes were a lot harder to cut out than I expected, but it eventually worked out, my hope is this course will show me how to finesse designs so that everything is cohesive.
